Let me start by
telling you how I got on the
WebTV
OK, my son Jason, 17 at the time,
had
been into computers for over 8
years. He
even tried to get me on the internet
on his first Tandy that his dad
bought
him. Well, showing no interest I
frustrated him....lol. Then he
started having
problems with his computer and it
even
shut down. Well, we bought the kids a
Saturn game system and thought we
would
get the attachment pieces to go with
it.
So we hooked up the Net Link and they
had the internet through the
game. They
used that for around two years and at
the end of it we put it into the
living
room and I used Hotmail's email service and they showed me how to do email, this
was
summer of 98. I exchanged emails with
my
sister in Tennessee and basically
that was
all. I never went on to go
and search the
internet for anything. Then my son
started talking about the WebTV and
how
much nicer this was then his Saturn
Net
Link, and I just ignored him as I
didn't
see it to be worth it to write my
sister, that is all I was interested
in.
Then in Dec. of 98 he decided he
would
buy the webtv unit out of his own
money
if I would let him put it into
the
living room in place of the
Saturn. That
was fine with me. Well I got hooked up and had my
own
account and was doing the email. It
was
so much easier not having to go to a
hotmail account. So then guess
what.... Jason showed me the
newsgroup
about learning how to use the
webtv.... webtv.users....or new to
webtv,
something like that I can't
remember.
My whole world
opened up then, I
started
asking questions about the email and
all
that. Then the world of html opened
up
and wow! My email was loaded with
around
10 gifs. Jason then suggested that I
open a webpage to store my gifs
on... then that one page was taken to
long to load and so he opened a page
two
and then I watched him and then he
turned me loose. I thought rather
than
just store my favorite pictures of
cats
and things that I would make a page
like
all these other ones I had seen. So
now
you know what I was doing all
of 1999. I never looked back at boring TV or
wondering what can I do now....lol. I
bought the unit from him and he used
the money to upgrade his computer. It
is a good thing because I would of
taken up all the time on the WebTV.
My husband then got a computer in Nov. of 99, but I kept my WebTV till they messed up my account. I got my own computer last year and now we have side by side desk in our office. I will always keep my little black box though. It brought my soul mate to me, and that is very special to me.
